Christian Community
At The King’s School, Tudor House we work closely with students and families to build successful relationships.
Students are taught and engaged explicitly in the eight School values; Humility, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Compassion, Excellence and Gratitude.
An important and unique part of our community is that students and staff share daily meals in the School Dining Hall. This not only provides nutrition but also allows time for conversations and relationships to thrive.
Through Biblical Studies lessons and Chapel, we aim to develop students who understand the Christian faith and seek to live out its message in practical ways, full of compassion for humanity.
Pastoral Care
The wellbeing of each student is paramount at Tudor House. Each member of staff is carefully selected for their experience and devotion to helping students reach their full potential as they grow as lifelong learners.
Mr Richard Deck, Deputy Head Students and Community provides oversight of the school’s pastoral care program and is ably supported by the Colour Housemasters and the School Counsellor.
At Tudor House the students are explicitly taught about social skills through curriculum lessons and specific tailored programs. The development of pro-social skills, collaboration, contributing positively to a community and the power of words and actions are intentionally and consistently emphasised and nurtured.
The House System
Each student is assigned to a Colour House: Red, White or Blue, for the duration of their time at Tudor House (they are even sorted into their Colour House at Assembly by the Sorting Akubra). The Houses provide pastoral support, a sense of belonging and a team to compete with during the House competitions.
All staff are assigned to a Colour House. Each Colour House also has a Housemaster and Assistant Housemaster who help to lead and support in various ways.
Boarding students are assigned a Colour House and are also connected to a strong network of residential staff, which ensures a family environment exists where pastoral care and attention are available, day and night.
Buddy System
Each new student at Tudor House is assigned a ‘buddy’ from the same year group providing crucial peer support for social and emotional wellbeing for new students.
Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students are assigned a Year 5 and Year 6 buddy respectively to ensure a smooth transition to School and particularly life in the playground.
All buddies display the qualities of empathy, kindness and tolerance which are embedded into the values of our School.
After School Care
At Tudor House, we appreciate that many of our families work longer hours than the regular school day.
To support our families, we offer afterschool care for Pre-Kindergarten until 5.00pm and for Kindergarten to Year 6, children can stay for prep (homework time) and even dinner with pick up at 6.30pm.
Casual and Block Boarding at Medley House
Casual boarding allows students to stay at Medley House on an occasional basis for one or more nights during the school term. If staying multiple nights, we recommend booking consecutive nights for a more seamless experience. Casual boarding is ideal for:
- Students wanting to experience boarding for the first time in a structured and caring environment.
- Parents who travel occasionally for work or have commitments requiring overnight care for their child.
• Students interested in joining a boarders’ excursion weekend (minimum booking of two nights required).
Block boarding offers a set schedule of boarding nights for a defined period, such as:
- Every Tuesday and Wednesday for a term.
- Every Thursday night for the entire school year.
This option is particularly beneficial for students involved in before-and after-school activities, such as swimming squad or local sports competitions. We provide transport to and from these activities, making it a convenient solution for busy families.
