Academic Excellence

At Tudor House, our teaching and learning programs nurture and develop children as caring, active participants in a lifelong journey of learning.

As an authorised International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) School, we deliver inquiry-led, transdisciplinary learning experiences so that our students are challenged to think for themselves and take responsibility for their learning.

International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP)

Tudor House is the only authorised International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) School in the Southern Highlands. Delivering an inquiry-led, transdisciplinary framework, our students are challenged to think for themselves and take responsibility for their learning.

Guided by six transdisciplinary themes of global significance, students deepen their learning by developing their conceptual understandings, strengthening their knowledge and skills across and beyond subject areas.

Tudor House students explore local and global issues and investigate opportunities in real-life contexts. The PYP allows students to take control of their learning, while teachers collaborate to deepen student learning and increase their confidence and self-motivation.

Specialist Classes

Our students benefit from rich learning experiences in addition to their regular classroom activities, with specialist classes in Music, Visual and Performing Arts, a language in addition to English (French), Physical Education, Sport, Woodwork, STEM, Biblical Studies and our renowned Outdoor Education program, Kahiba.

Enrichment and Extension

Some gifted and talented students have specific learning needs that may require adjustments to the pace, level and content of the curriculum.

At Tudor House we are committed to ensuring that the needs of gifted students are catered for to enable them to reach their educational potential.

The inquiry nature of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme means that gifted students have the opportunity to further develop and extend their knowledge through Units of Inquiry, as well as to pursue areas of interest.

Educational Support Services

Tudor House fosters an inclusive learning environment by providing evidence-based, best-practice learning opportunities to assist students who require additional learning support.

Support for students is developed at the whole school, class, small group and individual level, depending on their individual needs. The Education Support Services (ESS) team works closely with class teachers to maximise learning across all areas.

Pre-Kindergarten

Our Pre-Kindergarten class warmly welcomes boys and girls five days a week from Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 3.30pm.

Learning through the characteristics of play and collaboration is at the heart of teaching our smallest learners.

To help children adapt, integrate and transition to Kindergarten, we provide them with hands-on experience in the classrooms of our older students, with the assistance of support teachers. In our outdoor space, Pre-Kindergarten students explore and try new activities encouraging the development of enquiring minds.

The Paddock to Plate program is a highlight of the Pre-K experience with students growing and harvesting produce, including apples in our orchards, watermelons, pears and berries. ‘Chicken Duty’ is eagerly anticipated with the opportunity to feed the chooks and collect eggs. The lovingly grown produce is then shared and celebrated with other students in the Dining Room.

The Pre-Kindergarten classroom in the Lower Primary Precinct, allows students from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 2 to interact positively with each other in a safe space. This provides the opportunity for the youngest Tudorians to learn by example as older students role model traits of leadership.

The Pre-Kindergarten program focuses on Phonological Awareness, Literature and Mathematics. Specialist classes include Music, French, Woodwork, Art, PE and Biblical Studies. The completion of the five day per week Pre-Kindergarten Program promotes a smooth transition into Kindergarten.

Kindergarten to year 2

As an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme School the boys and girls love to learn as inquirers through a conceptual lens. We take our students from the Tudor House ‘stage’ situated in the beautiful Southern Highlands of NSW to the ‘world stage’ as internationally-minded citizens.

Our Christian Community, interwoven with our School Values provides the foundation upon which our students build their lives.

Our technology-rich state of the art facilities which include a magnificent library, iHub (STEM), learning spaces with interactive screens and 1:1 devices prepare the students for the rapidly changing digitally-networked world to which they belong.

Biblical Studies, Music, French, Physical and Outdoor Education, Library, STEM, Woodwork and Visual Arts specialist teachers work alongside the classroom teachers, enriching and extending learning experiences.  Differentiated support is provided both by the classroom teachers and by educational support teachers to enable students to achieve to their potential, whether working towards or beyond the expected learning outcomes of their cohort.

From Kindergarten to Year 2 our students join the Strings program designed to develop musical appreciation, understanding and skills as a basis for future musical experiences.

Years 3 to 6

As students flourish in their surroundings, we continue with our teaching and learning approach within the Primary Years Programme framework, building on the solid foundations, concepts gained and connections made, further developing skill-focused approaches to learning.

Where authentically relevant, a range of disciplines such as Science, History, Geography, Personal Development and Visual and Performing Arts are integrated into units of inquiry making learning meaningful and connected.  Specialist subjects enjoyed during the early years are further expanded.

A vibrant music education and performance program is introduced from Year 3 involving all students, with access to instruments and fully-equipped performance spaces. We also extend sporting opportunities with the introduction of differentiated inter-school team sports. A broad range of co-curricular activities enrich the lives of our students.
